KATS Generation III Download

This page provides you with an opportunity to download and try out our new flagship k9 software, KATS Generation III. The file is 119 megs in size, therefore should be downloaded using a cable or DSL connection. You can also successfully download using 56k modems, however it is a long process.
KATS Generation III has been developed using .NET (dot net) technology, the most advance programming system available. The system will automatically install your .NET framework for you, then install KATS Generation III.

ATTENTION: After downloading, please go to the Installation link on this site and obtain the instructions for proper installation. As you start up KATS for the first time you will be presented with a registration screen with two buttons. One that says Register and the other that says Continue Evaluation. DO NOT change anything in that screen. All fields must remain EXACTLY as is. If you attempt to put your agency name or personalize the registration screen you will get an error message saying your trial period has expired. Simply click on the Continue Evaluation button to proceed each time you start the system. If you have difficulty, refer to the installation help link on this site.

PROGRAM CHANGES
1) The Alt-A command on Export has been removed and the checkbox is permanently visible. 2) Install has been fixed to install on Windows XP SP1 correctly. 3) Multi-Handler box removed. System detects multiple entries automatically. 4) Quick codes removed, utilization not required. 5) Surface Type field has been changed from free form to a drop down menu 6) Training Activities screen has had session date start and end times added, exercise start and end times added to the activities screen. 7) The reports most commonly used by the user will develop and create a personalized drop down menu on the main screen where a specific report can be chosen directly without scrolling through the report manager. This drop down box will create a list of up to 10 of the officers most frequently used reports. 8) File numbers on the training side can now be auto-numbered. The user can choose their personal preference to auto-number their training incident numbers or to input their training incident numbers manually. 9) On persons tab the format of date and time of an arrest has been changed to be the same as the rest of the program. 10) The default unit code ID now takes affect in Incident\Activities. 11)The Incident Number field has been increased in length from 10 to 20. 12) An "Announcement Time" field has been added to Incidents - Deployment section. It will work the same way as Callout Time.
REPORT CHANGES
1) Updated all reports to Copyright 2005. 2) Took the hard coded 2 text out of the Use of Force Report. 3) K9 Deployment Report -> Added a page break to the correct spot in the report. 4) K9 Deployment Report -> Left Justified the Summary Text. 5) K9 Deployment Report -> Made "Deployment Time" headers on 2 lines so it shows up correctly. 6) K9 Deployment Report -> Removed Columns Activity Code & Unit Code ID. 7) Incident Summary Graph Report -> Added headers to this report. 8) Incident Summary Graph Report -> Removed UCR Code Field. 9) Incident Summary Graph Report -> Added Summary Line. 10) Incident Summary Graph Report -> Changed the first column from short description to long description of Incident Type. 11) Title, Incident Number and Date fields have been added to the Use of Force reports for multiple suspect entries. 12) All reports have been updated to 2005 copyright. 13) Use of Force Reports is no longer printing out a number 2 at the end of the word Surname. 14) K9 Use of Force Reports - Added a page break in correct place so one report doesn't run into the next one. - Left Justified the Summary Text. - Made the Deployment Time header on 2 lines so it shows up correctly. - Removed Columns Activity Code & Unit Code ID. 15) Incident Summary Graph Report - Removed UCR Code field. - Added Summary Line. - Changed the first column from short description to long description of Incident Type. 16) All reports containing Incident number should now be able to handle 20 characters. BUG FIXES
1) Error on Help About Screen fixed. 2) Items will now show up even if the training aid has not been entered. 3) Added a function that will double up single quotes as this was a problem with import. 4) Should now be able to save when hours is a valid number. 5) Single quote problem which would cause the import to error out has been fixed. 6) Install has been fixed so it will not try and re-install after an install. 7) We have changed our installer from Install Shield to Wise For Windows, MDAC issue should now be resolved. - We are now using MDAC 2.8 in the install. - We are now using .NET 1.1 framework. 8) Reminders report fixed. 9) The field on Resources - Location was missing a button for Snippets and Spell Check, this has been added. 10) FIXED: Problem with Large Databases not being able to run reports.
FURTHER ENHANCEMENTS
The Ability to print multiple incident reports at once from the Incident area has been added.
6) A Method to lock a report in level 3 unless accessed by an admin password. A "locked" field has been added to the Incident form which whenselected will lock that report for all users except an administrator.
Added Training Code filter to the report (Training - Training Summary by Type) to show a particular type of training.

Feature: Surface Type field is now a drop down. Added start, end and hours to Training Screen. Feature: Added a menu item "Reports" that will display the 10 reports the officer has viewed. It will not display until they are viewed at least once and the program is then restarted.
Feature: Auto numbering the training incident number. It is set to auto track with a manual override options in the preferences area. It can default to manual override and for new systems with no previous entries to import it can be set to auto track, selectable by the user. If turned on it will get the max value + 1 each time a Training session is being added creating an auto number.
Note: If you are upgrading from the original KATS Generation III you must Un-Install the present version on your system. You will not lose any of your information by un-installing KATS Generation III from your system; your registration information, databases and input information will all be retained. Once you have un-installed KATS you can then install the latest service release upgrade.
Report Template Downloads
Note: These files are in compressed EXE format to reduce download times and to automatically unpack into your KATS directory. Please allow a few seconds for the download window to start. You will be prompted for your username and password. Enter your KATS License number as the username and your license validation code as the password and the download will proceed. The file will download as a self-extracting archive. When you click on the downloaded file it will begin to extract automatically to your default C:\Program Files\KATS30\Reports directory. If you have installed KATS on a different drive or directory, simply change the path when it is presented. Once the files are extracted, your new reports will show up automatically in your Reports Manager. Some downloads will also include a font package. The font icon will be found in your reports directory and may need to be moved into your own system default font directory in order for the fonts to display correctly. KATS Generation III Service Release 4 - January 8, 2004
This release rectifies the import issue where you have to reboot the system after you import from a Level 1 system before you can use it. That is no longer required with this release.
KATS Generation III Service Release 3 - September 18, 2003
An import bug was discovered and fixed and three new reports have been added to the system. The following service release link is an update to the original program and adds some minor fixes and enhancements to the system as follows:
- Fixed bug with importing data from a KAD file if this is the 2nd time that the data has been exported
- Better message after doing an import to indicate “# records imported/total records” for each table
- Debug tracing has been enabled for the import system to give a better idea as to why a record has not been imported. Note: This is ON by default and writes all information to “Trace.txt” in the KATS30 directory
- 3 new reports have been added for Training Activity Summaries (based on Canine, based on Team, and based on Handler)
KATS Generation III Service Release 2 - June 25, 2003
A number of issues and were discovered and improvements have been made subsequent to the initial release of KATS Generation III. The following service release link is an update to the original program and adds some minor fixes and enhancements to the system as follows:
- Ability to minimize/maximize the main window
- Snippets no longer replace the text that is in the field to be added. They are now inserted at the location of the cursor or will replace any selected text (much like when doing a copy/paste into a text field)
- The Export option now has the ability to set the location of where the exported file should be saved.
- Modifying an image in the Training Section no longer results in an error message
- The database location is no longer automatically reset to C:\...\Kats30\dbKATS.mdb if a database cannot be found. Instead, the user will be presented with a messagebox indicating that the database could not be found with the option to use the default database or cancel
- The setup has been compiled with InstallShield which will result in a "friendlier" install of the .NET Framework. A progress bar will now be displayed that keeps cycling to indicate that something is happening.
- Screen Saver has been updated, including more pictures.Ability to "Install for All Users"
- Uninstall shortcut has been added to the Start - Programs - KATS menu UNC path can be selected for Image location and location to save exported files
- From the export screen, all data in the database can be exported bypressing ALT-A to display a checkbox, then place a checkmark in the box before pressing the Export button
- Corrections have been made in the 'Activity Summary by Code' and 'Activity Summary Graph' reports to ensure the activity data matches
- Logging has been added to the import from an old KATS20 database to provide details as to which records did not get imported and why they did not get imported (on by default)
- Bug fix for Training Details, Training Details based on Canine, and Training Details based on Handler reports where the text was being cut off. Groups within the training were also tightened up within he Training Details report so there isn’t a large space at the end of the first page with the remaining pages being full.
- The software “build” number is now added to the About and Splash Screens to identify the release version of the software.
